Neutron-induced fission of ²³⁵U/²³⁹Pu releases 2-3 prompt neutrons + 200 MeV. Critical mass requires k_eff≥1; moderator (H₂O/D₂O/graphite) thermalizes neutrons. Fermi CP-1 1942.
