Z boson

Layer 1 — Physicsin the standard-model subtree

Massive neutral spin-1 gauge boson mediating the neutral-current weak interaction. Mass ≈ 91.1876 GeV/c². Discovered at CERN UA1/UA2 (1983). Its own antiparticle. The Z pole at LEP gave percent-level confirmation of electroweak unification.
